So Im hanging out at a buddies house and notice some shotguns sitting on a top shelf in his garage and ask about them. 17yrs ago his dad passed away and he got the shotguns. They were covered in dirt, surface rust, scuffs, etc.... So I told him, I've been into firearms for years and would love to clean them up, get the rust off them etc... He laughs and agrees to let me try while telling me they are to far gone, but if I want to waste my time trying, I'm welcome to. Tonight I took his Mossberg 500 and completely stripped it. Got some 3 in 1 oil, a green scotchbrite, some furniture restorer, rags etc... And started scrubbing.... 3hrs later... The bore is shiny, smooth and clean and well, this thing is far from perfect, but it looks pretty good I think considering the shape it was in. I only regret not taking pictures before i started. Ive got 2 more shotguns to do and will definately get before pics of them and post up...
