Back when I worked for Lafayette PD and one of my arrestees appeared in city court he tried something similar by saying he was a sovereign citizen and did not recognize the authority of state or local governments over him. He made a motion to have his case dismissed on those grounds. Judge Kaliste Saloom, who didn't put up with ANY crap, was on the bench that day and without even batting an eyelash fined and sentenced the guy right there and he got carted off to jail.

I just found it so amusing how the judge regurgitated the guys bs right back to him and managed (probably not hard) to confuse the guy and leave wondering why that crap didn’t work.
