Does anybody have any good information on Blackthorne rifle kits? I'm looking to buy an upper for my AR and being a guy on a tight budget, I ran across their products. I wanted to get some good feedback/critiques on them. Please no gun snob bs :D

Spend the few extra $$$ and get your kit from Del-Ton or Model 1, especially if it's your first build. While Blackthorne seems to be getting better, they have been several reports of their kits not always working without a little "tweaking". I've ordered some stuff from them before, and noticed that parts are not always finished correctly (type II instead of type III anodizing, bluing instead of parkerizing, no park under FSB). The Del-Ton kits are only about $50 more.

so Del-ton's pretty legit? I was looking at their products as well. Buying online is probably better (cheaper) than trying to buy locally?

I'd believe what Chibajoes says, He seem to have built some nice stuff.

Without looking at the kits in question one option is:
Buy a stripped lower from Bill @ B&B or a local dealer.
Now you have the ffl covered & the rest can be ordered or gotten locally.

Skip it. My A2 is a Blackthorne. Improper stake job, upper looks like it was finished twice. Either the front or the back end has a reddish hue. Barrel was overtightened causing the front site post to be canted. Barrel under FSB has no park. Seen some complaints about costumer service on the net by others. Didn't have that problem cause I fixed the above myself except for finish.

Spend a bit more for piece of mind.

I appreciate it guys. I spent most of my day at work (shhh) reading some reviews on them and thats the general consensus. I'm pretty convinced now to spend the little bit extra and get a solid upper.

I've gotta rep Del-ton as well. My first build was a Del-ton kit. I eventually sold the upper, and built it as an SBR, but the Del-ton kit was great.
