So is it leadless, or not?

They mean that the primer and powder have no lead in them. The lead exposure that you get from shooting is from the primer and brunt powder.

    So they are "green"?

Gotta please the lefties I guess.

Guess this will be the only Type of ammo allowed in California pretty soon.

I believe what they mean is that the "base" is also coated, meaning the lead is fully enclosed in a jacket, a regular bullet has the base exposed so technically only has a cover on the sides and the tip.

This reduces the chances of lead exposure at indoor ranges

I read something about it the other day, some ranges require this type of ammo for the safety of their employees.

(I think this is the same that they were talking about)

This is used for indoor ranges. When a standard bullet is fired trace amounts of lead are released into the air and then breathed in by people present. most "full jacket" bullets are not covered on the rear of the bullet, these are. When they say leadless they mean heated lead is not released on firing. A gun club I belonged to required this ammo on their indoor ranges.

Having a very analytical mind, one of the many things I have noticed is that ammunition seems to follow gasoline, i.e. gas goes unleaded, bullets follow. Gas goes crazy high in price, ammo follows suit.
So stock up on the current ammo no matter the current cost guys... Cuz pretty soon it'll be corn cobbs and kernel shot for everybody.

    Or Pregnant Mothers :dunno:

I know my wife does not want to go to the range or shoot while pregnant. It has to do with lead exposure, breast milk and baby development. I can assure you she's 'read up' on it.

I believe there is also potential Pb exposure from the impact of the bullet at the back stop.

Can someone point me to data on airborne Pb from the base of the bullet? Seems to me it would be minimal.

I thought the term was complete metal jacket?

It is-- though these probably have the lead-free primers as well, thus the different name.

FMJ has an exposed lead base; CMJ, as you note, is fully jacketed.

Completely lead-free ammo is ridiculously expensive.

You wanna REALLY scream about mis-labeled ammo? Take a tool or knife to some WWB or Federal Champion projectiles, and tell me if that looks like jacketed ammo or PLATED...
