Kimber Pro CarryII 9mm good choice for Steel Challenge???

Would a Kimber Pro CarryII 9mm good choice for Steel Challenge??? With 4 inch barrel and aluminum frame would this be a decent steel challenge gun? Like the lighter weight and balance of the 4 inch model I am very new to this. Currently have a Smith M&P 9L. I am really partial to 1911s though. Help me make a good decision.

What does the recoil feel like? In speed shooting, you do not want to have to fight recoil.
