Here is the latest spaghetti string map. It does keep moving landfall a little more westerly every update.

Yup. Just hope it doesn't strengthen too much.

I wonder if the fact that they keep moving it west will give it more time in the gulf and allow it to gain strength? Would seem logical to me since it will stop pulling the dry air over Florida and start pulling hot, humid air from the gulf.

Well, looks like this is gonna be Gustav, Part Deaux.

Not quite as strong- but this is one big-ass mofo, fellas.

Hope everyone anchors down and fares well.

Mr Hurricane "angel of death", was sporting a clean shaved head and new spray on tan...

    He's ready for action...

Cantore is from White River Junction, Vt., but you'd never know it.

He's been sporting the chrome dome for a while.

Where are y'all depending on weather info?

Surprised at how clear the roads were on my commute this morning. Nobody on the interstate at all o.O I'd expect at least a little traffic as people head west but it seems nobody is taking the storm seriously yet.

Cat~1 storm not that bad for inland areas like BR. May loose lights for a few hours and see some flooding in low lying areas.
New Orleans is unpredictable being so close to coast and levee erosion could be trouble depending on exact land fall.
Having a generator never hurts and stocking up on water and ice ahead of time may be a good idea.
I wish all my BS friends and family a safe one.

Maybe a cat1 unless is intensifies. The Saffir-Simpson scale is based on wind alone. It does not factor in surge, overall size of the storm, etc. The forecast path is a REALLY bad track for NOLA and all nearby areas, putting them squarely in the NE quadrant. All those E/SE winds will be pushing the surge in through Mississippi Sound, Lake Borgne, etc. Isaac may not have the wind velocity, but it is a BIG storm, as shown by the wind field diagram:

Large storms create a surge that is not proportional to their winds. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the flooding potential, especially being in Slidell.

    Stay safe!
