This is a developing story. Suspect is in custody 11:11pm.

    Update 12:24am 5/22/15

Agent has been identified as Sgt. Scott Bullitt, 32, of Jonesboro

Around 6:40 p.m. Sgt. Scott Bullitt, 32, of Jonesboro, along with another agent stopped a vehicle at the end of Buckley Hill Road near the Wham Break Boat Launch. Sgt. Bullitt believed the occupants of the vehicle to be impaired and proceeded to go back to the LDWF patrol vehicle.

While walking back to his vehicle, Sgt. Bullitt was shot in the lower back by the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Luke Jarrod Hust, 29, of Monroe. The other agent returned fire. Hust fled the scene into the woods. It is unknown if Hust was hit.

The unwounded agent was able to call for help and apprehend the driver of the vehicle, whom authorities don’t believe fired any shots at this time. The driver was subsequently brought in for questioning.

Around 7 p.m. the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene and were able to take Sgt. Bullitt to a local Monroe hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

The LDWF Enforcement Division, State Police, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Monroe Police Dept., and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection set up a perimeter and searched the area for Hust. At 11 p.m. authorities located and arrested Hust on Timber Lane Drive in Monroe.

Sgt. Bullitt has been an LDWF agent for over five years and is married with no kids. He recently received the *Louisiana Highway Safety Commission DWI Award* presented on March 24. He was selected among statewide agents to receive this award due to his dedication and hard work to make Louisiana waterways and roadways safer for the traveling public by removing impaired drivers.

    Update 11:11pm

A source close to the investigation says Luke Hust, suspected of shooting a LDWF agent is in custody. The perimeter around the manhunt is being lifted now.

    Update 10:15pm.

Luke Jarrod Hust, 29, of Monroe, is the suspected shooter, said Adam Einck, a Wildlife and Fisheries spokesman.

State Police Troop F spokesman Michael Reichardt, of Troop F, was unable to release the identity of the agent, who was shot near Wham Brake, a section of the Russell Sage wildlife management area. The agent was taken to a local hospital, said Reichardt.

Einck said the injured agent, who is from Jonesboro, and another officer were performing a routine traffic stop on a vehicle whose driver was suspected of impairment. When the agent turned to go back to his automobile, the driver shot him in the lower back, Einck said. The other officer fired at the shooter, who fled into the woods, Einck said.

A passenger in the car was arrested.

Update: Suspect in Wildlife and Fisheries shooting, according to scanner chatter, is Luke Hust. Authorities are still on the scene searching for the suspect. News-Star reporters are en route to provide further updates.

A Wildlife and Fisheries agent was shot in the back about 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening near Wham Break boat launch.

EMS was called to take the injured agent to St. Francis Medical Center, where he will be airlifted. An official at the scene said the agent was conscious when he left the scene, but his condition is unknown.

The suspect armed with "some kind of handgun," a white male described as wearing blue gym shorts and a black T-shirt, fled into the woods after shooting the agent.

Agents last updated the suspect's location as walking along Buckley Hill Road toward Stubbs Vinson Road. Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies responded to the scene. Officials are looking for the shooter with about five units spread throughout the area. A K-9 unit has been dispatched, as have the SWAT team and the Louisiana State Police.

Man I hate that, prayers for him and his family. I've never had anything but good experiences with them. My buddy works for OPSO and is working the search. Praying that he and the other officers are kept safe when they find this scumbag.
