Lubrication 101

The wear scar size from the cleanzoil was extremely impressive. I’ve never used that one before.

I clean with Weapon Shield and lubricate with a mixture of 80% Mobil 1 20W50 VTWIN and 20% ATF.
I have used many 16 0z. bottles of Weapon Shield and I am on my third quart of Mobil 1.
I use a little Hoppes #9 for really tough cleaning such as a really filthy bore.

How many people actually put any kind of lube in the exhaust hoes or on the bolt tail and rings ? Why ? Also I'm all for lubrication but anything over a thin film actually is counter productive . Wipe contact surfaces down with oil the lightly wipe off the Access . Will they run dry ? Yes .will they run with oil and grease dripping out ? Yes . Also never put anything thick or sticky in or around fire control . I learned from experience that it doesn't take much buildup to block trigger operation .

Wow, I'm actually surprised they didn't clean some out of the barrel before shooting . I use Castrol synthetic 0 but not that much for sure . It was entertaining but I would venture to say if a side by side comparison was done with one AR soaked that way every mag and one shot dry during the course of a days shooting the dry gun would definitely be a lot more pleasant to shoot if not more reliable .

I thought it was pretty much considered common knowledge now that it’s best to run ARs wet. Too much lube would be much better than not enough lube

I took them apart and removed as much oil as possible and they worked as designed.

I would disagree. The #1 cause for malfunctions in rifle courses that isn’t ammo related is running the AR too dry.

i treat handguns the exact opposite as I do my ARs. My Glocks only get a handful of single drops of oil as per the manual states to do.

You are disagreeing that a gun soaked in oil like they do on the video would be less pleasant to shoot than a dry gun ????? I never said guns should be run dry I said some places on an AR should not be oiled and some not greased but very lightly oiled . Anything more than an oil film is counter productive and can actually slow things down . There are plenty of tests where dry guns have been fired thousands of rounds with no malfunction and I'm sure tests where guns are soaked every few shots are out there too . That doesn't mean either way is the right or only way.

Which is specifically why they built in a weep hole opposite the firing pin safety.

This is what I’ve always followed and it’s worked well for me. I also put oil inside of the upper on contact points that show excess wear

Evidently you didn't even watch the video that we are discussing . If you don't see how that amount of gross over lubing would be unpleasant you just ain't right .
