    Maybe it's a Pre-08 model;

    I talked to the guys at S&W about this issue a couple weeks ago. I was told the place that does the melonite for them had changed(eliminated) a fairly imporant step in the process which resulted in a loss of rust prevention. They did catch the problem but some guns did make it out the market this way. The problem has 100% been resolved. So you need not worry about rusting M&Ps any longer.

    You just made me pull out my M&P9c to check it out of fear. I carry it every day for a few months now, with no problem. My M&P full size before it, for almost a year, equally with no problems.

    Hopefully Hitman's quoted statement holds true for me.

    I can only second the others... that is a pretty clear violation of the advertised product and S&W should be handling that as a defect!

    Please do let us know how they deal with it!
    They are and stainless will rust just not as fast as carbon steel.
    What he said. Think of it less as "stainless" and more as "Stains Less"

    I carried mine for a couple years in an MTAC with zero rust and barely any wear at all. What kind of holster are you using?

    Also, IIRC S&W will fix it under warranty.

    Something unusual is going on with that pistol. Even if it was uncoated bare carbon steel it would not rust like that if you're wiping it down every day like you claim.

    Fired round says 6-8-2010.. It seems kinda scratched right there. Maybe I dropped it or something or the holster wear let it rust.
    Every other day:-) i guess i should just carry a 1911 if this thing will rust like that.

    Winner!

    Folks are often mislead by the term "stainless". You would NOT want a firearm made from the more corrosion-resistant stainless steels- they're too soft. :)
