A good friend of mine bought an M&P 9 a few days ago, after taking it to the range just like most people he loved the gun but hated the trigger, I advised him of looking into the Apex Tactical trigger kit unfurtunetly they are backordered and they dont know when they will be available again. I decided to do some more research since there had to be something else that could be done instead of waiting and I found this guys http://www.burwellguns.com/index.htm, they actually have a PDF on their website for the DIY kinna guys which after looking at it seems to be a very simple job to do, comparing the parts from Apex to the work from Dan Burwell its the same thing. I understand there is a plus side from doing the Apex kit since you get to keep your stock parts in case at some point in time you decided to go back to stock, not that I think somebody would but just in case, following the Burwell instructions your are modifying your stock parts so going back is not a posibility, either way I hope somebody finds it interesting and usefull.

    Be safe!;)

...I've had the .45 since they came out, love mine I also have a 9mm Pro. I shoot them better than my Glocks, and the gun will feed semi wadcutters with no problem. Never had a failure to feed or eject with my M&P's. I did the trigger jobs myself per Dan Burwells post on MP-Pistol.com, but the Apex kit is a lot quicker. I'm putting in George's when his sights come in. My trigger pull is 3.75 lbs down from factory of 6 lbs and a lot smoother. I shot a one hole 5 shot group at 15 yds the the .45 the other day which speaks for it's accuracy...

The above is an excerpt from another thread about M&P's earlier this week.

I also think that the factory sights suck and have Sevigny's on order from Chris Patty. I was lucky enough to get the APEX kit just before they ran out, but the sights are on back order.

I've been told by both companies that the M&P has become very popular, much more so than they had anticipated.

I did several trigger jobs on the M&P's before the Apex kit came out. Very easy if you follow Dan's instructions. The only thing you have trouble with is radiusing the FPB if you don't have a hard felt buffing wheel. My trigger pull is down from 6# to 3.75#. I did replace the trigger return spring with a 6# Glock one, it drops it down 1/2 #.

Interesting to know, I'm trying to decide if I want to do it or not I have done the trigger Job's on all my XD's and 1911's but I have never played with an M&P eventhough the idea sounds very interesting. Good to know about the trigger return spring, Thanks!

I got on Burwell's waiting list about a year or so ago, haven't heard from him yet. Don't know if he's that busy or my name just got lost.

He may be busier now but when he did mine the turn around was about a week.
    He does excellent work.

I did the Burwell DIY trigger job on my carry 9c. It is a huge improvement over stock, and is free other than a couple hours of your time. Then I upgraded to the Apex setup and it's another big step up from the DIY. Apex is on the ball, it won't be long before they are back in stock and are worth waiting for IMO. The trigger feels better, there's no chance of messing something up and the parts are much stronger. Considering how bad the stock trigger is, it's the best $60 I've ever spent on a gun upgrade. I have the Apex kit in both of my M&Ps.

A few months back I decided to start shooting in the production division and bought a S&W M&P Pro. I haven't shot more than 500 rounds through it at this time, but was hoping the trigger would "lighten" up a bit. I guess it won't.

Darrell, I think the sights are useless, too. I bought Dawson's adjustable sights and they are much better. I have several friends that use Warren's sights and like them.

I appreciate the above information and am going to take a look at it today and see what needs to be done. Heck, I can wreck a steel ball with a Dremel Tool...why not a gun?

    Thanks guys

When I find time I'm going to do the Apex trigger. I've been looking to replace my sights but really want some trapezoidals like my old Steyr. However, I can't find any! I don't think anyone makes them. I wouldn't mind picking up a .45c, too.

Ok, the do make SOME trap sights, but God are they fugly...

I like how you wrote that one out!

I have decided to tackle my buddys problem by the horns and for now since Apex kit is not available I will do the trigger job, eventhough as mentioned by "SpeedRacer" I will still strongly advise him to upgrade in the near future since I'm only a gun junkie and not a person who knows anything for what thats wroth, LOL, you'all be safe!

I am in the process of installing the Apex carry kit, but I have already installed 10-8 rear sight and a Dawson fiber optic front sight. The sights are a great improvement over the stock. Will update when I range the kit.

My .45 has been with Burwell for about a week and a half now, should have it back in the near future. Pretty sure the stippling is taking some extra time.

If you've been on his list for over a year, your name got lost. He was busy for a while and not taking orders, but recently opened up again and accepted mine in a matter of days.

I've heard nothing but great things and I'm very excited to give her a dance when she shows up.

I didn't see the do it yourself link. I thought I might tackle it today, but they must have removed it.

    Oh well.

I just put the Apex duty/carry enhancement kit on a couple of my M&Ps (they're back in stock BTW). The duty/carry kit comes with their hardened sear, stiker block, a new sear spring and a heavier trigger spring. It's a big improvement over stock. Overtravel is greatly reduced and the reset is more pronounced. This is a much simpler method that doing it yourself albeit a little more expensive. It's a whole lot cheaper than sending to Burwell or Bowie when you throw in shipping costs. If you're not sure what's involved, check out Randy Lee's install videos on youtube. Just do a search for Apex Tactical.

I have the Burwell instructions downloaded and contemplated doing it. After seeing how small the sear actually is, I would think there is much trial and error inolved in DIY. I just never got around to doing it. I read about the Apex sear and striker block on another website and decided to do that instead.

I must agree with you on that, a lot of minor trimming required Apex makes it sooooo much easier being a drop in kit, just remember to hand polish all the parts before you put them in to help reduce rubb even more.

I did, at least the contact parts in the sear assembly, sear and striker block contact. I still have one left to do. Did you do your striker block too?

Yes striker block was also polished, I hated the fact that for the FP Block to come out the back sight has to be taken out that totally sucked azzz but its how it was design.
