The "trigger finger should have one job" argument has always seemed like a bit of a blunt instrument to me... a BAD lever sits 1" forward and 1/2" to the right of the trigger, extending out past the side of the receiver. As far as finger movement goes, that's not an insignificant distance. Most shooters have control of their trigger finger down to small factions of an inch (i.e., prepping a trigger). Safety and discipline are safety and discipline.

Guess now isnt the time to bring up a M1 Garand

I may be doing it wrong but I use my trigger finger for releasing the mag . as well as the trigger . That is the only way I can maintain the position of my strong hand and use my support hand to insert the new mag.

I had one at one time, but removed it-Just didn't care for it, personal reasons. I found a better solution for me: Redi Catch by Boonie Packer www.redi-mag.com. Easy to use, works like a charm, and you don't have to change your grip on the weapon to use it. AND you keep your trigger finger away from the trigger while operating it. I was a little skeptical when I first got it, but after installing it and running a few drills, I really like it. I have been using it for about 2 years, and have found nothing negative about it. Basically, once installed, you use your trigger finger to depress and hold the mag release while pulling the charging handle to the rear. Release the charging handle while keeping the mag release depressed, allowing the bolt to move forward a little and it will lock open on the bolt catch.
When you want the bolt to go forward, depress the bolt release lever with the support hand (thumb) to release the bolt. It operates a lot quicker and easier than I make it sound.

I have one AR15 with a Phase 5, and one with B.A.D Lever. I prefer the B.A.D. Lever. The Phase 5 is more expensive and seems to wobble more in the bolt catch roll pin slot. The B.A.D Lever does not require removing the roll pin to install it. Also seems more solid; not as much wobble. Both work equally well.
I definitely like having the extended lever. Holding the rifle with my right hand, without the lever, I have to pull the charging handle with my left hand and engage the bolt catch also with my left hand. I need two left hands.
