I gotta back up the blue suits here.
I don't know a trooper that wasn't a police officer or deputy somewhere before they went to LSP.
Troopers are among the highest trained leos in the state.
They do back up other law enforcement agencies all the time.
So they are as well, if not better trained for the N.O. detail than a lot of NOPD.
NO ONE could have anticipated or planned for the Katrina aftermath.
All the law enforcement agencies that went down there did exceptional work.
So it is not a matter of whether or not LSP is/was capable for the task.
They most certainly are.
I cannot speak to the Guard or regular military, you ex or current military guys can hash that out.
I can say that the guard units I worked with in N.O. were spot on!
Especially the Oregon Guard unit we rode out with in their amphibious APCs.
Eventually that N.O. detail has to come to an end!
Even I can see where the continued LSP and military presence is going to wear real thin.
