Son is shipping off for Navy basic ibn the middle of June. His personal possessions are very limited but he can bring a watch. I need a good non-flashy watch that he will not have to worry about charging that he can use for basic and will survive the training. This is for his HS graduation and going to basic. I will get him something nicer once he gets out. Appreciate any advice.

G-shock. I had the same one from osut to ets, with a lot of hard times in between. I still have that watch, needs a battery though, but works just fine.

DW5600 E Illuminator. Only had to replace the band and battery for the last 15 years and still good to go.

That’s a good one. I’d also recommend not getting the “military” negative display. Just get the regular one.

ok now on to which one out of gazillion that they make. appreciate the help!

Honestly, unless you're wanting to surprise him, I'd let him provide his input. A watch is a very personal item (it's on your wrist all day) and he may have a preference.

    I'll also give a +1 on the G-Shock.

Another vote for the G shock. My son in the Navy has had one on his wrist for the last 4 plus years and it’s still going strong.

My suggestion is the Timex Expedition, Indiglo like here https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/ti...essories||71700000050238202|58700004916746698

My 7 year old Luminox quit on me last week. Rather then get out my other Luminox, I got out my Timex bag. Replaced batteries and they all work. I am going to wear a Expedition for the near future as I am hard on a watch and still have work on a creek cabin and a boat to do. Then I can wear my Luminox again :)

I did 5 years in the navy and got out in 2016. I showed up at basic with a g-shok watch on and was not allowed to keep it nor were any other recruits who brought watches. Mine was about as plane as they come and in regs however they wanted us all to have the same $10 watch from the NEX. I’m sure it’s different for every division but just wanted to fill you in with my experience.
