I need help identifying a Remington .36-.40 caliber muzzleloader owned by a friend. It has a inch and 3/16 diameter six sided 32-34 inch barrel with a false muzzle. An unusual tang sight, percussion under-hammer ignition. The tang sight has a sliding wedge which raises and lowers the aperture. The patina is so dark the only writing legible is the word Remington near the breech. He is supposed to call me tonight with actual length and diameter--maybe caliber if he gets the chance to measure it. Any info would be very appreciated.

You may want to post this in the sub-forum "Black Powder and Muzzleloaders". Although I enjoy shooting muzzloaders, I'm no expert, especially with antique longarms. They are such a diverse group with many, many different manufactures large and small across the country throughout the 18th & 19th centuries. But I was unaware Remington made any underhammers. Perhaps the target barrel was made by Remington but the rifle constructed by another. Photos would be helpful in your quest for information.

I will not be able to get pictures for awhile unfortunately. The gun belongs to the guys father (73 years old) and the father got it from his father who was born in 1880 or so. Since it is percussion it is likely Civil War or later. This is a target rifle for sure. First I've seen with the original false muzzle.
