I got a mint rifle from a member here. Thanks.
But as things would have it i can not leave it alone. So after a few years of looking at it.
I wanted to refinish the stock as the 50's rebuild has some varnish that was pealing.
So pulled it down fixed the few spots of blued that was rubbed with some Ospho Blue. Cleaned it well with denatured alcohol. Heated the metal in summer heat on my deck in full sun. I cannot even see where the touch up is done or on the butt plate.
Then sanded the finish off the stock. Was late so hit Wal_Mart as I need some stuff for the home as well. And they had a can of "Red-ish" stain, on closeout at $1.00, even so, was $1.10 with tax, Yes strange red tag price. Anyway, it was a very close match. To what was on it. And put 2 coats. After Dry, i did some BLO I had in coats over a 2 week deal everyday. Like I did with my Garand.
So after all done was $1.10 as i had the BLO and Blue Bronwells on the self. And looks good
