Can anyone help me identify this bayonet and approx. value? Belonged to my Wifes Grandfather, he was in WW1. It is in good shape. Bayonet length is 17 inches, scabbard is 12.5 inches. Has #2126 on hilt, scabbard has #2132. Both numbers have some sort of symbol to their left. The bayonet latch and release mechanism works fine.

I am going to sell it but would like to know pretty much it's era, value.

I think it is German, late 1800's or first part of 1900"s, maybe Mauser but not sure.
Seems to be an Argentine 1909, what value should I ask?

    Thanks

Jim that bayonet looks to be in great condition! What a treasure. :)

I have a Bayonet from 1917, dug out of the swamps in Covington.

I hope that you dont sell it, and that you can pass it on to someone who will appreciate it. Or put it in a museum.

I thought of that but am wanting to raise funds to get a Ruger .44 mag so will sell it when I know for sure a general idea of its value.

To be probably a 100 years or older it is in good shape and quite beautiful as bayonets go. The scabbard has the look like leather but it is steel.

You are right. The blood groove is wrong and the release is wrong.
The 1909 Argentine is close too.

There are some similarities to the 1909 Argentine model, especially the numbering system they used but it's quite close, but not exactly like mine but the numbering system so far is the only ones that fit the numbering system on mine. Also, the Argentine model was made in Germany which would fit the geeneral German style.

Wonder what it's value would be? It is in quite good shape.

Guys (gals), I am leaning somewhat towards it being an Argentine bayone made in Germany. One reason is that where there should be a crest on the blade there is none indicating (as in the link article) that Argentina law does not permit the selling of surplus with any govt. crest on it so they would have them ground off. I still can't get a figure for the value except that mine being in such good condition and with the brass on it (desired by collectors) may indicate it was issued to the Navy or Police.

Your continued input has and will be appreciated.

Selling a 100+ year old family heirloom for ~100-200 bucks seems silly to me. Why not sell one of those diamonds or some of that treasure?

Haven't got the treasure yet and need more diamonds. Hope to be going soon but have to come up with few more items we will need. Now I have to worry about "skin walkers". Saw a program about it on tv other day. Didn't know there is such a thing.

I went ahead and put it on ebay, see what happens.

What a bummer. The winning bidder is from Poland and wants it shipped overseas. I don't ship outside the U.S. and said so in the listing. Now I'm stuck for at least a week trying to cancel the transaction. What a da_n bummer this turned out to be. Didn't even know they were from a foreign country till the end of the auction. Am I ever peed off.
