Well the person at fault was punished  Smells fishy... More like he was screwing with his pistol trying to get more comfortable in the seat when it went off because of his 1 1/2 pound youtube trigger job.

i wish they would give more information, like what kind of pistiol he had. there are not many pistols that will "go off" when dropped to the floor, some, but not many. nothing that i would be using as a concealed carry gun for sure. i would also like to know what pistol that the off duty undercover cop had in his shoulder holster that AD when a girl who was having her birthday party gave the cop a hug from behind and the pistol discharged and killed her. i think that happened in chicago. inquiring minds want to know.

Sparks moviegoer shoots himself in buttocks, apologizes, leaves theater
    ...
Calls reporting shots fired in the theater came in about 8:40 p.m., according to preliminary information.

*Witnesses inside the theater at the time the shot was fired stated that a (man) was adjusting himself in his seat when a gun he had on him discharged,* Sparks police Sgt. Pay Dyer said in statement issued late Tuesday.

The man immediately got up, apologized to those around him and left the theater before police arrived, police said.

He later was found at a Reno hospital where he was being treated for a wound not considered life-threatening.

*The (man) was cooperative with police and admitted that his gun fell out of his pocket and when it hit the floor it discharged,* Dyer said in the police statement.

    It was a Walther PPK.

    No holster.
Sparks man who accidentally shot himself in theater hopes it is a lesson to others

A date with his wife at the movie theater — cut short when his gun fell from his pocket, fired and sent a bullet through his seat and into his buttocks — is a night a Sparks man will never forget.

While Fernando Santana Eagleheart, 56, prepares for surgery later this week, the Reno casino security guard also faces a possible jail term and the revocation of his permit to carry a concealed weapon for the Aug. 14 accidental shooting at the downtown Sparks Century Theater.

The U.S. Navy veteran was the only one injured in the crowd of about 30 waiting to see "The Bourne Legacy." He said he apologized as he and his wife hurriedly left the theater, and said "sorry folks, it was an accident."

"I always carry a pistol for the protection of my family," Eagleheart said during a Monday interview. "We walked that night to the theater from my house. You never know what’s going to happen."

Eagleheart said the incident has caused him shock and embarrassment. But he’s mostly grateful no one else was hurt. He said he wants his experience to serve as a lesson to others about gun safety and properly concealing firearms.

"The first thing I said was ‘Oh God, nobody got hit, right?" he recalled. "I’m thankful it was just me."

The father of two said he believed he could loosely carry his .380 semi-automatic Walther PPK pistol in his pocket due to its small size. He also felt his pocket concealed it enough. Eagleheart described his pistol as a "James Bond style" that "is just enough to defend yourself and not hurt anybody." He said he is not armed when he works his security job at a downtown Reno casino.

"It was an accident," he said. "But I learned my lesson from the police officer who said to next time put it in a holster. I told him I was a good guy and I can legally carry a weapon.

I know now it’s not a good idea to put my weapon in my pocket," he said. "I am a very skilled person when it comes to weapons, but I guess I was kind of dumb that night."
