I was at a flea market yesterday just looking. Bought a pair of jump boots in like new condition ($10) and was on my way out when I noticed a glass cabinet he had. Lo and behold there was a folder with a lock blade crying out to me. The blade is nothing special (440B made in USA) but the wood grain is what caught my eye. Some Bubba dunce (probably a kid) had tried to scratch his name on one side but it was superficial scratches.
I bought that puppy (5" blade), brought it home, sanded the wood down to get the scratches out and found walnut underneath. Beautiful wood that sanded wonderfully. I'm putting some BLO on it and the grain just leaps out. I think it's going to be well worth the $7.50 I paid for it.
Eyes open all the time.
