I dont see any tax cuts in our future..

    I guess we will see..

I hate the fact that I pay school tax for public school ... But I send my daughter to private school.. I know its my choice and Im not complaining.. But its crappy.. Kinda like paying extra for the stupid recycling container... (I sent it back.. Im not paying more and then seperating glass and paper...It sucks...)

I think that community service thing is a crock...

If they want to make welfare recipients work to earn their money Im all for it..

It would be wonderful if they actually earned their check... But I dont see that happening....

But Ill be ******* if I as a tax payer will let the government force my child into slavery... Its ******** and there is no way you can convince me that its a good idea....

I put myself through college. No free grants. No Tops. No scholarships. I went offshore and worked 3 months straight sometimes overseas to pay for college, living & expenses for the year. It was pretty tight at times, but I was living with my fiance (now wife) the last 1.5 years and we made it work. Funny thing is while I made sacrifices and had the drive and ambition to hump it while I was in school, I was paying taxes out the wazoo (on OT) and that was "paying" for other people who were too lazy to get a grunt job while going through college. College break? Ha! 7 day shift on a swiss-cheese platform in the Gulf. Christmas break with the family? I was in the swamp working on an inland barge. Summer vacation? 6 weeks in Trinidad or overseas or bouncing from rig to rig in the GOM. So I'll be DAMNED if the government wants to force me or my child to "work" while I am already working and paying for slacktards that don't have the ambition to bust their butt to earn their money or **** it away on frivolous things. Collecting welfare money from the government and just sitting at the house, never really having a steady job for more than 3-4 months in your life? FU! Hell yeah, I'm all for signing them up for community service for these bottom feeders. Someone already working 40-50 hours a week required to do community service? They have plenty of dbags in prison that can be put to work. They are already getting free room, board and education. Put them out in fields to plant corn or send all the garbage collected in the community for them to sort out for recycling or something. I mean WTF?! COME ON!

I'm in a community organization. Rotary international. We help poor kids get school supplies, are having a big impact on polio world wide, and have literacy programs in prisons, third world countries, etc. I will pick my own time and organization thank you Mr. Obama. Why not get the welfare class involved. If they were working maybe they wouldn't be up to no good.

Obama's message of required community service is consistent with former practices of socialist/communist states. The state knows best and will tell you what to do. This liberal fruitcake headed for the Oval Office is beginning to show his true colors now to those who hadn't noticed them before. It's going to be an interesting four years, if he isn't impeached from office before then.

Someone sent me a slightly expanded version of the original article...

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

In certain ways I agree with the flightless bird on this one. There are already things like key clubs etc. all you do is make it mandatory, they have to have 1 or 2 credits to graduate. In the Parochial schools they do this already where you serve so many hours community service. And the guy that refused SHOULD have had his diploma held until it was completed, just like a book fine. If it had been Catholic high here in BR I'm pretty sure it would have. Now where I disagree is on this peace corps crap. It should be community service and NOT some particular group or cause mandated by the government. For instance, years ago I had a neighbor who went to Catholic high and he needed his community service. I put him to work at the haunted house attraction where I worked as a volunteer. I think highschool students volunteering as teachers aides in elementary schools might be good, or helping out at The Cerebral Palsy Center or some such. If it's mandated by the government It's far too easy to have kids end up working for the Obama re-election campaign.
