I have an old American Flyer Train Set that has been misused, mistreated, neglected, etc. and would make a great starter set for someone who is into restoring old model trains, or is a collector and wants the good parts off the pieces.
The good is that it is a complete set, the bad is that the condition is overall poor, except for a couple of the cars are actually in fairly nice shape. As best as I can determine, the set is from the late 50's to the early 60's and was a special edition sent to Shell Gas Station owners (my father was). There is enough track to set up, but it as well needs refurbished. The box also includes an extra caboose.
I have included a stock photo of the set with a "Gulf" tanker instead of the "Shell" tanker included.
I had a long conversation with someone who specializes in these and his estimation of retail value is between $120 and $150 as is.
He offered me $80 for the whole box. I will send it to him unless someone here on the board is interested within the next week or so, and will give me$70 $50 for everything.
I am willing to meet on the Northshore FTF for inspection and/or sale.
