Here are the folks to contact

Maybe we can get one of the more legal types to put us together a nicely worded letter to share with like minded folks, and to send to our council people.

I would NEVER live in EBR, no offense. ;)

No offense taken. Just talking about how it is over here. I have 55 acres in the country and I can't legally shoot a rifle or pistol on my place. It has to be 1/2 mile from a house or road.

Good luck getting it changed in LP.

My family owned 100+ acres on Pope Road in Zachary, surrounded by other pastureland (Rollins Road). I grew up hunting there and I tought my kids to hunt there, mostly squirrels, doves and rabbits. Starting about 1990, they started selling off the other land on Rollins Road and building subdivisions. Then one day I was hunting with my son and a Sheriff stopped us and said we couldn't hunt anymore on our own land. This sucks to the max.

The LP one was adopted 10-9-84. 1984 was also the year that Act 149 of the 1984 Louisiana Legislature enacted a mandatory education requirement for anyone born on or after September 1, 1969.

Typical bureaucrats, if a little err on the side of safety is good, a lot is GREAT! I wonder if I can find the special Hit Piece the news did in the early eighties on the "Danger of Hunting", that led to this.

Well, I feel for you. I actually live in one of those subdivisions on Rollins Rd. It just doesn't seem right to shut someone down on their own property. :dunno:

What about the people I see parked off the interstate off in the grass, is it okay to go into the wooded area there and hunt, and shoot? What's the legalities if a trooper caught you coming back to your vehicle with a firearm?

Alright guys/gals a friend of mine spoke to Mr. Chance in district 1. Here was his response:

    Okay-- he said:
well here's the problem, the state law overrides our parish ordinance. Now we can write an ordinance adding to the state statute but we can't write an ordinance changing a state law. We'd have to get state legislators to change the law.

After looking over the sate statute, I don't see anything that says anything about distance from a residence, ect. So, what do you guys think? Did I overlook something?

Nope, State Law isn't the problem. No need to change the State Law, just get rid of the Parish Ordinance.

That's what I see as well. Mr. Chance told my friend to tell me to give him a call today, which I am about to do right now. I am thinking he looked at the state statute and realized that that it is only the parish ordinance that is the problem. I'll post back after I talk with him.

My daughter lives on a county road way in the SW part of Anderson County.

Her husband and I shoot in their front yard within 20' of the road all the time. Sometimes neighbors stop and shoot with us.

    Civilized up here.

If you knew the politicians, and talked to locals around here, you'd seriously question how we're a Red state.

He is presently doing his homework on the subject.

I just got off the phone with Chance, great guy and very understanding. He is going to get with the other councilmen and try to get something worked out that would help us guys/gals in the woods, and at the same time, protect the guys/gals that live in subdivisions. He is on the same page with us on the fact that the wording in the ordinance is silly, especially considering when it was written (LP was very rural back then). I would like to ask that we give him a little time to work on this and not blow his phone up in the meantime. He did not request this, but I don't want him to get overwhelmed with phone calls on the matter. I did invite him to BayouShooter, so maybe he will join in and keep us updated here, but if not, we can contact him via his FaceBook page for updates and ideas.

Good deal. My suggestion would be to leave it to the local municipalities.

Folks have more say with their mayors, and it would allow heavily populated areas to fall into one category, and rural sparsely populated areas to fall into another.
