I was reading a news report on a statement from the current President's Staff about 3-D printing of gun parts. The auto-switch, ghost guns with no serial numbers, etc. were mentioned first. Then there was this statement:

"These 3D printed firearms can also be built with non-metal materials, making them undetectable by magnetometers used to secure airports, courthouses, and event spaces, the senior administration official said."

I think this is an exaggeration unless someone on here knows of a printed plastic firearm that can withstand any moderate measure of chamber pressure.

Edited to insert link to article.

It’s fear mongering as usual to try to take away more gun rights. Don’t forget doing away with the 2nd Amendment and forcing mass paid confiscation aka “buy backs” is the ultimate goal.

It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines here and it costs more than what you make in a month!

    Ha! The old ceramic Glock…

They have to look like a gun and contain at least 30% steel….
Well, there’s a certain current .22 pistol that won’t pass those standards…guess I’ll stock up on that model.

Guns have been made that look like pens. So are pens now required to have at least 30% steel? Stupid executive orders, those need to be banned.

3d printed guns that are 100% plastic have been made. Pretty sure they work on the 1 shot principle. I'm sure a properly woven carbon fiber/kevlar barrel could handle a moderate cartridge, like 380 or 32 for a few shots. Maybe something like a pepper box that has multiple barrels, get 6 shots and the 6 barrels could be printed as a unit, helping with strength. Still use it a a "one use" type item, maybe also wrap the 6 barrel unit in Kevlar thread, sorta like the carbon fiber wrapped precision barrels to add strength? Modern composites are pretty good, not the equivalent of good steel but still pretty good.
