i bought a set of the blue custom molded earplugs at academy. they are supposed to reduce 26 decibels. they were only 13 bucks and seem alot easier to carry around then a big set of muffs. it takes roughly around 25 minutes to mold. less time if you do them both at the same time but i wanted to make sure the first one came out good before i did the second one.
so far i give this product a good rating. lets see how it does next time i go to the range.

When I was in the hearing protection biz, molded plugs were frowned upon as, with use, their shape changes, and you don't get the hearing protection that you had initially.

This was in an industrial setting where the person used them every work day for several hours at a time, and taking proper care of them was considered a PitA.

I have never liked the muffs as there are fitting problems with your hair and the glasses' ear pieces interfering with the seal. However, many on this forum like the electronic ones.

I use the old foam ones and they provide decent protection.

The very worst piece of safety equipment is a device that isn't used properly.

    YMMV.
