I refuse to pay for a handguard that is slip fit clamp on (Faxon), uses a "chemical bond" (Midwest Industries), or uses a standard barrel nut (Troy). That's just my preference.
I do like the Geissele Mk8, because the barrel nut does not need to be timed, the handguard locks into the barrel nut, and has anti rotation tabs that can be tightened down with set screws. However, it's heavy, comes with a gas block, and runs around $250. I don't need the gas block, so I'm paying for unwanted parts. Alternatively, the 13" ALG EMR V3 comes in around $160, but weighs almost a pound, close to the Geissele Mk8 weight.
I'm finding a ton of MLOK handguard options, but the majority of them are lacking MLOK slot positions other than 3, 6, and 9 o'clock.
Well, I have a 15" Geissele Mk8 on the way. Primary Arms has 25% off all Geissele products right now.
Looking good sir. Gonna be a fine blaster when its complete.I've heard good things on M4C, but I'm keeping my options open.
The Geissele SMR Mk8 came in today. I was too anxious so I mocked it up while I had some time. I'll have to pull it off again to install the gas block, tube, and flash hider. Compared to the rendering, it's looking pretty accurate.
Toolcraft is gtg. AR parts are drying up everywhere.Decided to try out a Toolcraft BCG. I could have gone with BCM, but this rifle won't see a high volume or rate of fire very often, so I'm not concerned. Funny thing is, the Toolcraft bolts were sold out just about everywhere except for Sulzer Firearms and a few places that wanted nearly double the retail cost.
