Rifle ID?

There is no markings to speak of on this gun. It was given to my son by his wife's grandpa. Says it's a WW1 sniper rifle. It is 30-06.any ideas from the gun experts here?

1917 are nice rifles, I'm proud to have one in my collection.

It's a sportetized 1917, either made by Winchester, Remington or Eddystone. The most drastic part of the sporterization is someone chopped off the ears for the rear sight in order to drill and tap for the scope.
There never was a " sniper" 1917.
They still shoot pretty good though. A lot were converted to magnum calibers due to the large mag box and size of the action.
