A major gun auction site has a 66-2 coming off auction that is a 38 special. I thought 66's were 357 mags that would shoot 38's also. This one is clearly marked 38 spec on the 6" barrel. Did I just learn something new?

Does it have a shrouded ejector rod?

How about a link? I’m curious.

    There was a 67 in 38 with a 4 inch barrel and a 68 in 38 with a 6 inch barrel.

Wow! Thanks JR1572 for the info on the "Prototype 68-2". However, the 66-2 listed on Gunbroker had neither a "68-2 over stamp" (at least not in the crane area) nor any engraving on the barrel indicating LAPD. And no pictures were submitted with the grips removed.
What surprised me was that the person listing on Gunbroker didn't even point out the apparent rarity of the gun. No clue that they had a 66-2-marked gun chambered in .38 Spl. I'd have to guess that the 66-2 .38 Spl listed on Gunbroker was one rare gun indeed.

Very interesting! Thanks for posting this thread, hdfinder47.
