Looks like fun. Back about the mid 90's, sportsman's guide had a deal on a .17 HM2 barrel for the 10/22. I did a little research and found the ammo was cheap and at 2100 fps ballistic tip I found it to be one hell of a squirrel gun. The HMR rifle I have now is a savage bolt action with the accutrigger. I love it. But it's a little too much for the squirrels unless you get a solid head shot. I've gone back to suppressed .22LR subs for that job now and I've found I can bag my limit with a lot less effort.
Looks like a sweet rifle man. Prolly good for knocking off rabbits in the food plot from the stand.

Don't most semi 17hmr, wind up getting recoil to to excessive slide velocity eventually?

Yes, .17 hmr and .22 mag's brass typically can't handle the earlier/faster opening very well on most direct blow back guns. However, Savage list this as a delayed blow back, like a falling block, tilting barrel or roller delayed... I wonder what they're using?
