The Gatineau PD provide M&P40s to their officers.

Gatineau police defend shooting escaped cows

Gatineau police said two cows were headed for the slaughterhouse when they broke free from a truck Thursday, leaving them no choice but to shoot them dead.

"The cops at one point have to decide if it's threatening for the population, is it too dangerous?" said Const. Pierre Lanthier of the Gatineau police. "They decided at one point they had no choice but to shoot the animal."

In the video, police can be seen firing six shots at one cow that slowed it down, then four more causing it to limp away off-screen.

Gatineau police said they had the owner's permission to shoot the animals.

Either they are terrible shots or they are terrible shots. Wow. They ruined way too much meat doing all that hole pokin. I'm with CEHollier, should have been a quick head shot.

Seems like they could have called in a professional to gather up the cows. What a shame. I have been around many cows in my day.....even some nasty bulls. I dont think two stray cows are all two threatening that they cant call someone in who can deal with them properly.

Had cattle my whole life, damn right had a rope in the car when I worked in a more rural part of the parish. Tie him off to a tree or your push bumpers and call the owner with a trailer.

The owner gave permission then do what needs done.

Could have at least gotten a little closer and made a decent lethal kill through the ocular cavity or something, if you felt your caliber was not meant for that large of a critter with that kind of bone mass.

Spray and Pray don't work even when you hit the target. Good thing that cow didn't play in the NFL and know how to knock someone on their ass and take their sh*t.

When we used to hire a local slaughter house to come and kill/pick-up/butcher our cows, the man would use ONE well-aimed .22 bullet to brain (I would say through the occular cavity). The cow would drop instantly and not take another breath, much less move. I saw him do this numerous times over the years with the same result. I have also seen someone try to shoot an injured horsed with a .44 between the eyes and just give it a headache.

Shot placement! As stated above a .22 to the head was the norm in slaughter houses.
