I just finished up Parkerizing an old Browning 12 gauge for friend. It was his dad's old gun that he learned to hunt with and wanted to clean it up so he could keep hunting with it. I told him bring it to me disassembled but I guess our definitions of that are different. He handed me a complete receiver with internals and a barrel. So first thing I had to do was completely strip it down. HOLY CRAP I don't think he cleaned it since he learned to hunt with it.

Any way, here is a few before and after pics.

Thanks, I told my buddy about the value issues from not keeping a gun original but he didn't care. Also this isn't any type of rare gun that will be highly collectable, they made thousands and thousands of these by several different companies. He is just excited to be able to take it hunting again.

It's a manganese phosphate Parkerizing process. I do my own little twist to it to get the darker and more consistent color that I like.

I mainly do it for fun and tinkering. I don't have an FFL so I have to be careful of what and who I do things for. I technically can't go opening up shop and charging people. I have been thru a few conversations with some of the know it all guys on here. It usually ends with me pissed and hearing what I already know over and over again from them. If you have something you want done feel free to send me a message and we can see but in general it's a hobby. The only real issue is serial numbered parts, like the receiver. Barrels, frames or anything that doesn't have a serial number is no big deal, once you mess with a serial number part you have to watch the exchanging of money, then it becomes an ATF issue.

I also do powder coating as well. I posted a couple pics on some other gunsmithing post I had started.
