I've got this notion about silencing a .22 rifle. I've got 3 rifles I could fool with but I'd like to get some ideas first. Two of them have scopes and one's an old pre-ww2 hand-me-down from my Grandfather.
    Anybody ever tried it?

If a cop tells you to do it, it must be okay. I'm just sayin'.

Reminds me of a time a cop acquaintance suggested I improve my sparkler bombs by adding aluminum foil into the equation.

You could just shoot CB caps. They are very quiet in a bolt gun.

Sparkler bombs? What's a sparkler bomb?
I've done liquid nitrogen in a 2 liter bottle before (dry ice works also I've heard). Very loud!
Also, carbide and water in a 2 liter is just as loud (Carbide + H2O = releases acetelyne gas) plus its flamable.

    Take a look at

    Good forum, lots of info.

Any particular reason you want to silence a .22 rather than a larger calibler?

Dry ice definitely works. I have an aquaintance that blows up computers with them. Devestating results.

I'm told MRE heaters & water in a 2 liter does the job also. Never tested it though.

    PM sent also

MRE heaters will do the trick but if you got extra heaters use hot sauce to activate the heater it will clear a room. We use to slide them under the barracks doors of the FNGs at about 2am. Those were the days.

Also Liquid plumber crystal works well in a lot of various go boom things.
