This is a Springfield Armory M1 Garand I purchased late last year. The serial number on the receiver indicates it was produced in November of 1943. Obviously the numbers on the various parts will not match and you can see that the finish on the parts varies from gray-greenish to black. The wood on the rifle is really nice. I looked for but couldn’t find a cartouche so I don’t know who made it. It comes with a new canvas sling. I know little else about the rifle. The friend I purchased it from bought it in 1994. Based on his records it looks like he bought it from a military rifle collector (he also purchased a Mauser from him). My friend was a collector who bought a lot of guns as the Clinton AWB was going into effect. I assume this was for investment purposes as most were unfired or never left the safe. Since purchasing this gun I have not fired it so I can’t tell you how well it shoots. As far as value I can only compare it to the rifles I saw on my trip to the CMP. The condition would at least rate Service Grade but the stock is better than Service Grade IMO. It looks very similar to the new stocks sold by CMP.
