Come join us at the Ascension Sheriff's Range Sunday, August 25, for our regular monthly matches.

These matches will be fired on Electronic targets. Bring a tablet or smartphone to score. If you do not have one, we will make arrangements to borrow one.

There is a slight chance of rain, but the temperature will "only" reach 90º.

    Registration will begin at 7:30.
Targets need to be setup by 8:30.
Safety brief will begin at 8:40.
    First shot at 9:00.

The Across the course match is sanctioned by the NRA. Scores will be turned in to the NRA.
The course of fire is the National Match Course which consists of 50 shots for record and two sighters at each stage.
Slow Fire Standing 10 shots in 10 minutes 200 yards SR Target
Rapid fire Sitting 10 shots in 60 seconds 200 yards SR Target
Rapid Fire Prone 10 shots in 70 seconds 200 yards SR-42 Target
Slow Fire Prone 20 shots in 20 minutes 200 yards MR-52 target

If you have a junior shooter interested in competing, please contact me so we can make arrangements for any needed equipment.

After the 50 shot-match we will hold the F-Class/prone match. This will start around noon, if you are shooting this match only, please arrive at 11:30. The match is shot at 300 yards. You can take up to 5 shots for sighters and there are 15 rounds for record. The record rounds must be fired in a 15-minute period. This match is shot prone and you can use a sling, bipod, or rest for support. Just about any rifle up to .35 caliber is legal, unfortunately the rules do not allow for muzzle brakes. Flash suppressors are fine as are suppressors. Entry fee is only a couple of dollars and you can find out how you and your rifle perform at 300 yards. NRA rules now allow suppressors in the tactical class.

Also registration for the State Championship at Palo Alto is now open. This includes matches on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

    Electronic registration is required.

    August 25, 2024 Match Results

SLHP held its seventh match of the year on August 25, 2024. The dog days of summer are almost over, with a little luck our next match will be fired in much cooler weather. We had 11 competitors for XTC and four for F-Class. This was the fourth match that we have conducted with all firing points on Electronic Targets. Everything ran well again. No junior shooters for this match, hopefully everybody has settled back into their normal school routines, and we see our young friends again!!

After Mike S's safety briefing, we held the first match of the day, a 50-Round National Match Course. Mike Burke started out strong with a 93 offhand, Tony and John responded with a pair of 98s sitting, then Mike S. said hold my bottle of water and shot a 99 in rapid prone. It was a tight race going into slow fire prone, Tony shot a 192 which was good for first EX/SS/MK but not quite enough to beat out Mr. Overton who was overall winner with a 473-7X. Mike S. was first master with a 470-15X.

As always, thank you to everybody that helped with the match. Special thanks to Rick M. for his continued help with both matches. Thank you to Sheriff Webre for use of the range.

The F-Class match was held after the National Match Course. We had four competitors. The scores were remarkably close. Congratulations to James for winning the match.

    Link to August scores:

The State Garand Championship will be held immediately after the XTC match and awards in October. It will be a GSMM match, but the state championship is for as issued Garands. No hooded sites.

In September, Palo Alto will hold an 80-round match on 09-21 and an EIC match on 09-22. Come join the fun.

The High Power Across the Course State Championship will be held at Palo Alto in October. Please see attached match bulletin. Electronic registration will be required.

Next match is September 29. Bring a friend. The F-Class/Prone/Tactical is a great way to introduce somebody to the sport.

We will continue to shoot E-Targets. Bring a tablet or smart phone to record/view shots.

If you have not joined the South Louisiana High Power Club, please consider doing so. Annual dues are $25.00 and will include your first match entry fee.
