what does one do with one of these?
Just curious. What makes it "tactical"?
They are either made of aluminum or some reinforced plastic that makes them more sturdy or solid, have some sort of molded grip, the reverse end is usually very pointy, and are made by companies that already make firearms and/or other LEO/military gear.

Was referring to getting through TSA.
Any layman can tell that this pen can be used as a stabbing weapon.
The very pointed tip on the opposite end, w/ their construction would let someone know this isn't some ordinary piece of stationary.
If you have a chance to pick one up, take the cap off, and grip it, you'll know what I mean.

I doubt a TSA supervisor would allow you to board a flight with one.

You can still try. S&W makes some "tactical" pens for ~$30; so if it gets taken or you have to leave it behind it wouldn't be too big of a lost

    :)

The instructor starts off with some basic Hapkido techniques that work fine without the pen. I would prefer a knurled and pointed metal kubaton to the pen.

I have a UZI Tactical Pen. Very well made and has some weight to it. Mine has the crown on top not the pointed top. Around $20 dollar with shipping included. I'll let you know if I make it to Spain with it.:run::run::run:

I have two of the Surefire pens, and they are really nice. I consider them a last ditch stabbing weapon. They are useful for not feeling completely naked in non-permissive environments.

With the right training, they can be used for joint manipulation like a Kubaton.
