Taking possession of "illegal" Class III

I saw an episode on Storage Wars where they found an old 4 barrel pepper box. They kept that. Another one where they found an insane collection of crazy flare guns, they kept those too. None of these items were "illegal" though, but if I remember correctly, the show is in California, so I don't know how they were allowed to keep these items.

Every legal-to-transfer full auto that ever will exist, exists now. I remember when that deadline was approaching, Cobray turned it's entire production over to receiver flats so they'd have as many registered as possible before they finished them.

Flare guns are non-firearms and any firearm "that does not fire fixed ammunition" is not regulated by the federal govt. Even cartridge guns made before the end of 1898 are exempt from most regs.

That amnesty was in 1961, I believe. Early 60s, anyway. Several years ago.
