I've heard that turning in the application in person would be the fastest way. Can anyone clarify this?

i hand delivered mine to LSP on June 29 and did the electronic fingerprinting ... we shall see how fast it'll be!

on the other hand, hand delivering and talking to the clerk that handled my case turned out to be the smarter move, as I didn't fill out all the required information thoroughly and she was able to point it out.. saved me weeks if not months. That alone was worth the trip!

oh and i also got to go eat at Burger Smith

Mine expired, but LSP has their stuff together. Turned in old school with notary and such plus a new set of fingerprints at LSP HQ on June 8. They issued on June 10. Got the plastic in the mail the next Monday.

    Pretty fast in my case

    7/12/15 - Took CCW class
    7/13/15 - Turned in application
    7/14/15 - Finger prints
    7/15/15 APPROVED and Paid

How long does it usually take from APPROVED to being in hand?

I took the class on 8/22. Hand delivered the paper application and did the electronic fingerprints in Baton Rouge on 8/28. Was issued on 9/8 and I received in the mail on 9/18.

    Pretty quick.

If you go to Baton Rouge and do the electronic prints, it's 8-10 days if no issues with background check.

If you submit ink prints, takes 50 - 60 days to receive permit if no issues.

If you submitted online they will email you status updates (received, link to pay, submitted, approved). It just took my wife one week from submitting paperwork online to approval. She lived out of state so I thought that was pretty fast.

Not necessarily, you have to pay, then another day or two before you get approved or denied. You get a second update for that and then they mail the card.

It took mine about 4 weeks to process after I submitted the paperwork online (scanned docs) and mailed the finger print cards and paid the fee online with a debit card. It's a breeze and they send you updates on its status.

    My process:

Day 1 (Sat) - CC Training Class
Day 3 (Mon) - Mail written request and SASE to South Tx for divorce papers from 1991.
Day 11 (Tues) - Receive papers from Clerk of Court.
Day 12 (Wed) - submitted online application for CHP.
Day 14 (Fri) - Fingerprints at LSP Headquarters in BR.
Day 18 (Tue) - Receive email stating application was approved.
Day 22 (Sat) - Received CHP ID card.

3 weeks start to finish while waiting on Aransas County C of C.

Very efficient on the part of the LSP CHP Division.
