Agreed, we could outfit older A!0's ,F!6, F18 and F15's with newer electronics and weapons system much cheaper on planes that have already been proven. This is a sign of the typical broken federal govenment that cant get anything in the way of common sense agreed upon.

I can't wait till the Iphone 11 comes out. It will have a built in Phaser...similar to the Starfleet Communicator.

We should be spending money on training and maintenance, not new weapon systems like the F35. The F35 is about keeping jobs in the right congressional district, not about fielding the best weapons system to date.

It is a real shame that there is constant talk of phasing out the A-10 while so much money is wasted on toys like the F22.

From an aircraft mechanics perspective, I think they need to seriously reconsider this idea to build a fighter that acts like a helicopter but performs like a top line fighter. We just aren't there yet. The yak-38 and the harrier both were a major compromise, and not up to the standard of a front line fighter. The F-22 is a world beater, and we need to make sure we have enough of them. Scrapping the A-10 is a serious error. I am not a military expert, but the A-10 seems a perfectly suited fixed wind aircraft for the combat we are finding ourselves in. I'd be willing to bet, that with f-22 top cover, the A-10 would lay waste to any soviet or Chinese armor threat.

Whats amazing is the cult of fandom surrounding the A10. It's a Fair Weather, Daylight, Single Mission Aircraft. The Pilots have to wear NVG's to fly it at night and they have severely restricted mission parameters because of it. I'd rather have a B1B full of SDBs or 500lbs JDAMs on station that can give me precision strikes day or night fair weather or foul. If I need guns the Humble OH-58 or AH-64 can get way closer and stay on station a lot longer.

I think A-10 is simply too cheap to ever really justify retirement. It's good at what it does and brings the pilots back home.
