I have some friends from Germany in town, and they want to go shooting. When they were asked what they wanted to do while here in the United States the only thing they could really think of was, "Shoot big guns." I am taking off work all day tomorrow (4-26-12) so we can throw some lead. I need to know if they would be able to use a WMA shooting range. Are there any rules against "internationals" shooting at a state owned shooting range?

I took a bunch of Canadians and Jamaicans to Sherbourne back in February. Shouldn't be a problem with Germans. The Wildlife and Fisheries website doesn't give any restrictions. When you get to the range there is a sign that says you are supposed to have a valid hunting license, fishing license or some kind of day pass for use of the facilities. I had looked on the WLF website for the pass, but couldn't find anything, so we went anyway. Nobody gave us a problem, even with ten of us on the range and only three local.

I'd get the cheapest 1 day fishing license (cane-pole). That would be a bummer for you're friends to get ticketed by some hard-ass. I got checked not long ago and the people shooting next to me were there from Ohio with their son or something. They didn't have the tag and the warden didn't give them a hard time about it, just said next time get one but you never know how stickler a warden is going to be.

I'm German born, native speaker, if you need some help at the range.

For Sherburne, they can go get a Wild Louisiana Stamp at Walmart. Fishing license requires them to be in the state for more than 90 day to qualify for in state license fee.

Of course they could chance it, but the fine is steep ($300), if caught.
