In today's market, probably a Taurus PT1911... :dogkeke:

At any other time, I'd look at Colt's or Kimbers. It kinda depends what you plan on doing with it and how tricked out you want it to be, though, IMO. Competition shooting rigs go a lot higher.

The Dan Wesson Vigil runs about $1200, last I checked. I have a CCO in 9mm that runs flawlessly. Fantastic finish and incredibly accurate.

Dan Wesson’s are great pistols. I would also recommend checking out a Springfield Armory MC Operator.

What suggestions for a 1911 .45 that is closest to a tru GI military version. Looking for a *user* gun and not a safe queen.

There are a few showing up at places like Palmetto State Army; CDNN and Sportsman Guide. Go to there site and have it shipped to your FFL. Academy had a Kimber for $699. just before all the BS started last year. like the guy said depends on what you want to do with it.

I purchased a SDS Imports 1911A1 U.S Army 7+1 .45 ACP Full Size Government Model - Turkish Made By Tisas. I paid $350.00 for a new one. Fit and finish were great. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Well made, straight shooter and at $350, how can you go wrong. I have several 45's, Colts, Para, Ruger, HK, and Rock Island, but I still like my Tisas.

I have owned several 1911's over the years, currently down to two, a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup National Match and a Metro Arms American Classic II, both are extremely accurate and function flawlessly. I'd have to give the edge to the Metro for all the bells and whistles (over a standard mil-issue 1911).

Next purchase will probably be a Springfield Range Officer, just for the adjustable rear sights like on the Gold Cup. A quick search this morning showed the RO available in the $900 range.

My newest 1911 was a Kimber Custom II in 10mm from Sportsmans Warehouse. It was around 800. That was a couple months ago at most.
