Thirty-seven people who could not defend themselves because the government took their gun rights. British hope and change.

Amazing, isn't it? Their solution for dealing with a madman like this? CCTV.

    Pathetic.

It saddens me to think there are people there who feel the same about gun control as we do- yet have been rendered powerless....

Don't think it couldn't happen here. I long ago ceased to be amazed at the near complete absence of critical thinking in our society. Based on the last election, I must now conclude that not only do people not think, they demand to be cared for by the government and will trade our rights for their comfort.

    I'm English.
I left over twenty yrs ago, pretty much in disgust at what was happening which I only noticed after I discharged and started living life as a civillian.
I don't remember what the deciding factor was or even if it was any one issue but what I saw was a people that were steadily being subjugated (as only the English know how)by their government which, with centuries of practice had perfected the dark art to almost making it subliminal. This is the overall issue.
The underlying issue of what happened in this case is clearly gun control, or lack of it, and the illegal weapons that are on the streets are evidenced constantly in criminal acts. A couple of months back an armed gang in Manchester were firing their weapons as they moved through the streets as the police looked on, powerless.
Some police are armed though. Home last year, out late from jet lag I watched a black police Hummer pull up on a street in Central London and four cops bail out in plain clothes with body armour and at least two with MP5"s the other two weapons I could'nt identify. All airports are patrolled 24/7 with machine gun toting coppers.
It is Illegal now to carry a pocket knife back home.
The average Londoner will be photographed FOURTEEN times a day!
Problem is they made ownership of firearms illegal after Dunblane and can't/won't reverse it.
Twenty two miles across the English channel is the coast of France and subsequently Europe where anything you want is freely available. The UK has a couple of thousand miles of open coastline
Gun control?-********-people control. That's what that is.

I think you nailed it. It is people control without a doubt. Once a gov't feels comfortable to the point it no longer feels the heat from the people, it is free to run roughshod over their personal freedoms. Disarming the people has long-been a fundamental step towards total control of the masses- that's a given.

Anyway- in case it hasn't been said before- we are glad you're here.

Impossible. They don't have guns in Britain. George Bush used the CIA to do this.

Tounge in cheek I know but a good point, They do have guns in Britain, you just can't but one.
You CAN rent one though, along with ammo and use it for whatever nefarious reason but you better return it to the BG you got it from or it'll be a problem.

apparently they need an even bigger government, tighter firearm controls, and a bipartisan comittee to keep the people safe!

My guess is that they will now move to ban ALL guns, long guns included. Or at the very least, they will insist that all guns be locked away in a government storage area that you can only access for certain hunting seasons.

    A "gun buy-back program", maybe?......:p

I've never understood how some people can believe it's possible to "legislate away" evil or crazy.....

This is exactly what will happen. The last two "massacres" involving guns resulted in the ban of all semi auto weapons and handguns in that order. This is just the last nail in the coffin.
