"Everyone must present ID prior to handling firearms." Get a cheap webcam with a button that takes a picture and mount it facing down. That captures an image of the id so the clerk doesn't have to remember the details. It doesn't have to be an expensive setup with facial recognition. Even a cheap ip camera hooked up to a cheap nvr and recording 24/7 would work. That can be done for less than the price of a Glock 47. You can mount the camera in a display case facing up. Set the id above it facing down for a few seconds and you're good to go. If a customer balks about handing over an id, they are welcome to purchase the firearm first and then he won't have to show id to handle it.

sad thing is, he handed over his id and was verified before handing him the gun, he picked it back up when the clerk turned around
The clerk was pretty good about picking up the ID and carrying it with him, but placed it back on the counter at the last stop. You can see the guy grab it just before he split.
One of the coin shops I deal with has an ante room at the entrance with cameras and buzz in door locks. Theirs is obviously to screen customers prior to their entry and to thwart any would be smash and grabbers from being able to storm the sales floor. Think of a pressure lock on your favorite sci fi space movie.
Pretty sure it’s time to just put this dude away. He’s proven himself to be a menace to society. Even to his own fambly.

We had an electromagnetic door lock at work years ago. With the push of a button the door is locked. Once on Magilla Gorilla couldn’t budge that door.
That’s a lot cheaper than the double doors.

But in the mantrap he would not be a threat at all. Single door lock puts the employees and other customers at more risk. Or less risk... because by the time he realized he was locked in, or came out of his daze from running into the door, he'd probably have several weapons pointed in his direction.
