Depends on the gun I’m cleaning but I stick to a few standby products. Hoppe’s No.9 has served me well over the years for general cleaning and bore wiping. I’ve been using Breakfree since I saw it in the 90’s, mostly on my pistols. Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber for those nasty tear down terminal cleanings or a good brake cleaner.
I lube my guns a little different than most people I know. I like a light weapons oil like the CLP stuff for slides and most moving parts but when it comes to bolts and other heavy action parts I firmly believe you need to stick to a good grease. Same with triggers. Gunslick is my top pick there but I’ve used others.
Finally, on blue finished guns, I’ve not found much to keep them in good shape better than Birchwood Casey Gun Sheath. They changed the name to Barricade a few years ago for some reason. Nothing like it for the final wipe down of all the polished blue parts. I like the spray can to blast into springs and other parts that never see the light of day. I like to swab the bores with an oily patch or swab after they’re clean. That’s something a lot of shooters apparently skimp on and it’s a shame for the bore if you live in the south.
The Glocks and the 1911's get Hoppe's 9 Solvent for cleaning and Hoppe's 9 lubricant for the oiling. The M1 Garand gets Hoppe's 9 solvent for cleaning and the red Mobile 1 synthetic grease for the lubrication.
