Nope. I use the TR Gunkote products on occasion and as long as you don't go crazy things will be fine. Worst of all buff the rails with fine steel wool after curing and oiling if assembly is too tight, but that seldom happens...
I just found this out the hard....uh... trial and error way! I just Gun-Koted my 1911 and it was very tight to begin with. I just oiled it up real good and I'm going to have to buff the rails out a little before hitting the range.
I am impressed with the Gun-Kote finish. For the first ever refinish job anyway!
A friend and I used Brownell's epoxy finish on my pin gun and it has held up real well. I baked it in the oven for a half hour after spraying.
I was talking to someone the other day and was informed that some folks are now using engine paint (epoxy?) to paint their pistols and they are coming out real nice and are lasting.
Daniel Hidalgo lives in St.Amant and refinishes guns at his home. He did the slide in my Avatar. He uses several finishes so I'm sure he has something that would meet your needs.
