I don't know but it was a lot of Jewish folks. With fresh memories of the Nazis the Jews in America were a large part of the civil rights movement. They kind of got pushed out towards the end.

Most of the early non-black founders were deeply involved with the Socialist Party of America, which was also a merger of the Socialist Democratic Party and the Socialist Labor Party.

Because this faction was under extreme scrutiny for opposition of WWI and support of the Bolshevik Revolution, their ideals began to swing exclusively domestic.

Read up on the "The Niagara Movement" and it will become clearer how it evolved into the NAACP and more centered around radically minded blacks.
