X-Ray machine and lead

If you lined a box with lead, would that keep an X-ray machine from seeing what's inside?

Depends on thickness. But I'm guessing yes bc I doubt you'll get less than paper thin.

It will be heavy. The lead aprons I wear during surgery art very thin but have some weight to them.

Lastly. You try something like that and you're bound to be detained for something.

Wasn't going to try it, but was just curious if it would work. I figured a 7x7x3 lined box couldn't weigh more than about 5-7lbs, so it "could" be a plausible idea.

A quick calc says that a 1/8" lining would weigh a little more than 9 pounds. Not too heavy, but I have no idea about it's effectiveness.

it would likely do the job, but, they would be able to tell that it is lined, which would probably give TSA what they believe is reason to apprehend you and go through your ****.

Lead has a large sectional density which does impeed gamma rays. Thickness necessary would depend upon strength of source and distance from source. You may not see in said box but the box itself will stick out like a sore thumb.
