Thanks for all the kind words . Charlie , in all of the excirement I didn't get the other guys name . My son knows all of the firemen at East Side FD . I can get the name today from their paperwork . Accident was at Old Hammond and Millerville .

First hope your wife is doing better tonight.

Doesn't look like he was in the list of drunk in the paper today, none of the males had number 2. Maybe it will be in Friday's paper.
Where did it happen? Did EBRSO or LSP work it?

If he hasn't bonded out his name might be on the inmate list on the EBRSO PP list.

Thanks Cat for showing us all that the focus of our concern should be about the victim, not the criminal.

 If that's not sarcasm, I'm not so sure you're 100% correct. IMO, that's why the POS was still out driving around after the FIRST offense.

I've met Dan to swap a box of ammo, but I've never met his wife. I'm still concerned for her and anyone else who is a victim of this senseless crime. I check this post when I'm on but somebody needs to stay pissed enough at the a-holes long enough to see it through to the penalty phase. If we all forget about the criminal, what happens to him? He gets blown off, swept under the rug and purged from the overloaded legal system until next time, when he might plow into me or my family. I think he's guilty of negligent attempted murder (even though there's probably no such charge but there should be) and needs to be in the slam.

I have enough focus to spread around.

Just for the record, I wasn't giving a backhanded slap to anybody who is (rightfully!) bitching about the drunk driver. I'm a girl, I like to send flowers. ;) Out of experience, when you belong to a message board, and your spouse doesn't... it can be special to that non-member spouse to realize you're more than just a username. But I don't think this is entirely all about Dan's wife either. I think some of these folks are just as right to be concerned over what happens to the drunk driver. WAY too many of these a--holes get off and go on to get their third, fourth, second fourth DWI, plus a few dropped charges in the meanwhile.

I agree with you charliepapa. If you are involved in a wreck while intoxicated, you deserve an attempted murder charge. There is no difference in my mind.

It's not sarcasm.Dan's wife is what this is all about. It's not a hatred party.

Well, I hope you're never a victim of a drunk driver in any way, but I guess that's a big part of what shapes the opinions of people like me.

I don't *hate* anybody but the other driver is a criminal; plain and simple, and needs to be dealt with swiftly and accordingly. My desire, concern or whatever you want to call it, to see him rot in jail does not take away from any concern for the victim.

I think I can decide for myself whether or not I can allocate thought in both directions simultaneously.

I'm actually a little surprised to see anyone here suggest that the two emotions should be mutually distant from one another. Based on the media representation of victims families and victim advocacy, anger and outrage is parallel to concern and bereavement. I'd be kind of surprised if I read this thread and didn't see anyone suggest he needs to be taken out back and shot.

I just got home from the Hospital . This may be her last night in the ICU . They took the C-collar off and the oxygen . They are going to re evaluate her arm in the morning and if it looks ok , they'll close the wounds . The broken ribs are the most painfull thing right now , but other than meds , they can't do much about that . She's in good spirits and her two boys are keeping her laughing with their nonsense . I really appreciate everybody's concern and kind words , and the offers of assistance .

The dirtbag's name may show up in Fridays paper , since the booking records cut off at 3 pm in the newspaper . The accident happened about noon , he was checked out in the ER , so he was probably booked in the parish prison after 3 .

    good to hear dan.

my dad has broken ribs several times and the biggest problem has always been fluid buildup in the lungs from not being able to breathe as deeply as normal due to the pain. got to keep an eye on that because apparently pneumonia follows closely behind the fluid in the lungs issue.

for some reason, the protocol has changed and they don't wrap your chest anymore for broken ribs but according to my dad, that was the only thing that allowed him to draw a deep breath or cough.

    keep an eye on her!
