The 1911 frame only needs nine holes drilled. The milling of the receivers can be done with a drill press and patience. I also thought they all came with the jig. Unfortunately it is plastic so it might be a one time use deal. We will see.

Raw forgings are under $20, I wont say how under but that give you an idea.

Not sure what they are using but those are probably 6061 billet.

If you go to youtube and check out 80% lower receivers, they show some serious machining being done to finish one. Too much for me though it is a cool paperweight! jmo

80%s aren't *that* hard. Pretty much all you need is a good jig and a drill press with some milling bits. Since these come with the jigs, it might be worth it...Not sure if I trust it though.

The milling operations are easy to do with a simple benchtop mill. Takes a few hours to do, taking time and breaks. I have seen these done with a dremel, but a drill press would be the minimum I would use. I already have a mini mill which I use quite often.

This would be a handy thing to have if you're going to go it with a drill press.

That is a good tool to have when using a drill press. I have 2 and while they do have some backlash, as long as you account for that (only use them in one direction after the slack is taken up) they work just fine. Mine have locking screws to hold the axis in place, which would limit the chatter while milling.
