31 Years ago yesterday some @ss shot an RPG at me from the back of a Utility vehicle.
I had never seen a Mk19 before, and was fascinated by the one the MP's chasing the Utility vehicle were shooting.
I stood there and stared, while the rest of my squad was hiding behind our 5 ton.
A Republican Guard in the back of the truck saw me and popped one off at me, or maybe he was shooting at my truck.
It skidded to a stop in the sand, about ten feet in front of my toes, without going off.
I put a mine flag on it, so no one would run it over, and moved on.
After that, every day since has been a gift.
I still want to shoot a Mk19. So cool.
31 Years Ago Today:
I got to destroy an howitzer.
A diamond charge on the tube cut the barrel neatly in half.
A couple of bangalor torpedos in the breech, for good measure sent a HUGE breech block flying about 150 yards.
Definitely an overcharge condition.
Tomorrow marks the anniversary of my first stroll in a minefield, getting shot at by a ZSU-23, and seeing an A-10 destroy said AA gun.
Good Times. I was younger then. Skinnier too.
What were you doing thirty one years ago?
Bet it wasn't as much fun as I was having.
