Revolvers are generally easier and safer for a gal to use. Alot of gals have problems with working the slide or being limp wristed. A small 2" Taurus, Smith, Rossie in .38 are safe and all she has to do is pull the trigger. Just my opinion.

Bersa also makes a ccw version which is smaller. Actually, same length but slimmer. The slide is easy to rack for anyone and it has a decocker in which she can pull the hammer at DA if need be. Shooters Club on Hickoey in Metairie has a Bersa to rent.

However,I still would recommend a .38 for inexperienced shooters or shooters of the other sexual persuation that have trouble with autos. By the way,I do know some men that also have trouble with autos. .380 and .38 ammo is hard to find right now,but 9mm is all over the place and cheaper! You can tons of compact 9s out there, but make sure she can handle it and know what to do with it. True, most women can't handle an auto but don't underestimate them. All the women I know carry autos and can handle them. Some of them even carry .45s.....and they all like guys!

Many of the same students who have issues with racking a slide also have issues with the relatively heavy trigger pull on a small DA revolver.

Most 380's are blowback designs. Which means they are going to have more recoil for that size weapon than you would have in a locked breech firearm. I would consider a 38 special revolver though. Previous posters have already stated most of my reasons for this suggestion.
