What were some prices for 9mm ammo and 5.56 surplus in the early 90s?

    I remember buying S&B 45acp 230gr for a little over 210.00 per 1000.

Seems like I remember seeing 9mm for about 5 bucks a box at Walmart. Anyone remember what they were paying?

And 22LR was about 1.00 for 50 rounds.

    In early 2000s, 9mm $3.99/box, 7.62x39 for $69/case, $79/case (back then a case was 1,000 rounds). 5.56, if I recall was under $200/case.

It's coming back down, but it's going to take some more time. We're not likely to see 90s prices simply because of inflation, but I think we'll be back close to what prices were a decade ago.

OK. Thanks . reason I was asking is because I was trying to see how close those prices were to today when factoring inflation. Was using this calculator:
    http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

The ammo I vividly remember ordering from Shotgun News was Seller and Bellot 45acp for about 210/a case of 1000. That's about 335.00 today.

S&G Ammo is selling S&B for 379.00/1000. Plus 16 shipping. But they are selling some Federal AE for 359.00.

Overall, I think prices are very close to 90s prices... With inflation.

For what it's worth, a CPI inflation calculator may be a little misleading for such a short span and for only one product, particularly since it considers food & energy costs in the consumer basket. Using the core inflation rate (a lower rate) may be a little more applicable.

I started shooting consistently around 2000-2001 and ammo was about 6 bucks for 50 rounds of wwb at Walmart.

I remember back in ~2006 maybe thinking that $14 + tax was really expensive/I] for 100 value packs of WWB.

The majority of the LC surplus 5.56 I own cost me 16 cents per round. The "SS 109" (M855) was a tad more.
And I still have bricks of .22 with the price tag showing 15.99. I stocked up again on mags and ammo after the Brady crap cooled down, but the prices weren't quite as good. I do remember urging my friends to buy when 9mm was below $5/50.
I would say that most ammo is most likely at the lowest price we will see anymore. Lately I've been buying 9mm at $10/50
.40 at $12/50 and 5.56 at 30 cents per round. I'm not currently buying much in the way of some other calibers I shoot because I'm waiting and hoping to see lower prices. Right now, the price on .22LR, .44 mag, .357, .300AAC and many large rifle rounds is disproportionate to other ammo, but I have seen a little improvement.

Just found some 50 round boxes of blazer 44 mag 240gr HP from "Sports Unlimited" I must have bought back in the early 90's. Price tag says 14.99
The Remington UMC 180gr soft tips (my favorite factory load for the carbine) were 17.97/50 at walmart.
    More than double that now.
