best way to avoid getting screwed?

I just registered here to post this.

I responded to his ad here in central Florida for an LWRC M6A2 for only $1200. Seemed to good to be true. It was. I got the EXACT same response, word for word. "sorry about the confusion, I live in NC...are you still interested? i can ship to you or your FFL and i will cover shipping cost..Let me know what works for you."
He offered to ship it straight to ME from NC? I reported him to ATF.
I did a Google search for his email and it led me here.

if it is verifying who i am, thats no problem...i have a license, there is no way i can hide from my identity but if it is to see the rifle before purchasing it, if you are very interested...we can work things out.

oh your ad says Tampa FL. Without being able to verify who you are or any other details I would really have to see the rifle before purchasing.

No No, you are getting it all wrong, I am registered under XXX store for xxx xxxxx in Jacksonville, he has a gunshop, since i keep collections and don't have a gun shop, i have to get my license under a gun shop, so i used XXX while i was back in Florida.

Can you scan a copy of your FFL? Does it have your mailing address on it?

When I read the title to the thread, I misunderstood the meaning but nevertheless I did think of a few things that you could do to "avoid getting screwed" -although I don't understand why you'd want to. The real meaning of the thread has been covered pretty well so here ya go...
1. The CB thread got me thinking that a CB in your vehicle might go a little way toward ruining that chance encounter.

2. Sure fire thing would be to eat cabbage AND beans

3. When she asks if she looks fat, the answer is no-i mean yes if you want to ruin your chances - always.
